I motivate me — a conversation with a colleague

Exchanging Tips and Advice, Uncategorized
I participated in a one-on-one session (conversation) with a colleague who recently purchased and read my book -- "Getting the Word Out: How to Market Your Ministry." It turns out she has also published a book called "I Motivate Me." She also has a blog and a website by the same name. After a few minutes, we discovered that both of us love the Lord and are both committed to God's great commission -- winning souls for His Kingdom. We didn't talk very long but I am positive we connected. After determining that she needed a little nudge to help her focus on some marketing techniques for her and her product, we talked specifics. Considering the limited budget we all work under these days, we discussed the following techniques: (1)…

A Working Vacation on Martha’s Vineyard — Good for the Soul

Uncategorized
Just returned from four days on Martha's Vineyard. I went with a program called Road Scholar accompanied by 26 delightful folks whom I didn't know. The only things we had in common was a thurst for knowledge about our history (African American History) and the need to get away for just a few days to someplace special without spending too much money. Road Scholar invited three African American journalists in order to help get the word out about their many travel programs; the journalists were from the Atlanta Voice, New York Trend, and American Urban Radio. We met Geoffery Fletcher, the young Black man who wrote the screen play for Precious, who gave a presentation to the group on who, what, when, and why of his project. He was delightful…

Marketing and Evangelism

Exchanging Tips and Advice, Uncategorized
While writing my book ("Getting the Word Out: How to Market Your Ministry") I sought advice from many theologians and pastors. One such conversation was with Dr. John Green, Dean of Turner Seminary at The ITC (Interdenominational Theological Center) in Atlanta.  After we talked about my ideas for marketing ministries, he said, "Bunnie, that sounds like evangelism."  This statement sent me straight to the scriptures to learn more about evangelism. With a little help from my pastor, I begin to work on the process and a better understanding. The bottom line is trying to fulfill God's Great Commission -- to wins souls for Christ. We realize that "getting God's WORD out" is what we, as Christians, seek to do. Therefore, using appropriate marketing and public relations tools and techniques from the 21st Century to help fulfill the Great…

Teleseminar on How to Market Your Ministry

Seminars and Lectures, Uncategorized
I just participated in a teleseminar with Pam Perry, known for her "Ministry Marketing Solutions." it was great!! Even if I have to say so myself. Pam and I met through Dr. Teresa Hairston, founder/publisher of Gopel Today Magazine. We "clicked," as George Fraser would say. (George was also one of the persons who told me that I should get to know Pam.) It was clear that Pam and I can get excited about marketing tools and tactics for churches and the ministry programs found within the church -- we can talk all night on the subject. We spoke with 200 participants in the teleseminar for one hour and took another 30 minutes to asnwer questions. We are a good fit -- Pam is new school, but is well versed…

day number two; you gotta love it

Uncategorized
I really love my work!  But sometimes its hard out hear for those of us who do PR on a daily basis.  After all, just defining the word "PR"  is confusing.   I was working all day yesterday for a special "paying" client. (nothing to do with marketing your ministry -- meaning a ministry program at church.)   We were designing a simple brochure for the client.  Now,  I am not a graphic designer; but -- to save money --I put my "publisher" skill to use and delivered a good one-fold brochure.  This was no award-winning piece of design work, but then I admit I am no graphic designer.    Lesson learned.  Never take on a creative piece of work when you take direction from several people.  But I knew that, so why didn't I do it.  After making more than…

I’m a new blogger — Let’s see what happens.

Uncategorized
Been trying to do this thing called blogging a long time.  I have a lot to say about public relations and marketing since I've been doing this for 30 plus years.  I give away a lot of my time to churches and ministry projects; and really got excited about the need for helping folks get the word out about their programs.  So last year, I wrote a book on the subject -- "Getting the Word Out: How to Market Your Ministry."  I'm having a ball with my project and I WANT TO SHARE  what I'm doing.    I have some good tips and I'm learning something new every day.  I'm working on the architecture for this blog.  So, come back and check me out later.
