There are many ways to get the word out. Try walking block to block and speaking to your neighbors.

Friends
I bumped into my girl, Dr. Georgianne Thomas, putting up her signs on the West side of Cascade Road in Atlanta over the weekend.  I admit that I was driving, not walking.  With her was Mariam Sidibe, from Mali, who is visiting Atlanta to learn more about women in the management of banking and finance.  Mariam is the Financial Inspector in the Department of Taxation (Ministry of Finance and Management) in Mali.  This is typical Georgiana – helping someone make connections. I have always admired Georgianne and I support her efforts to run for and win a seat on the Atlanta City Council in the 11th District (Southwest Atlanta).  I know of her excellent work while she was Chairperson of NPU-S.  If you know the NPU system, you understand how…

Content is King

Content is King

Exchanging Tips and Advice
Getting the Word Out to the public is going to involve some form of media – be it traditional media or social media.  It does not matter what you are trying to promote, you have to get people to hear, read, and/or see your messages.  And your message is content.  Content comes in the form of photos, words, video, and audio. Content can also be used on a billboard or a flyer to be handed out, and content is used on the internet for the world-wide web.  You can even stand on the corner with a bullhorn and yell.  In all of these instances, you will need content. The skill comes in how the content is put together so that it will be seen and heard; and that it is…

Some things I learned from NOAH

Some things I learned from NOAH

Exchanging Tips and Advice
Getting the WORD out has a lot of meaning(s). As we are challenged to get the WORD out – meaning the message of God so people can hear it; we are also challenged on how to get the WORD of God out – meaning the actual WORD that comes from what Jesus has spoken and that is written down in the scriptures. Sometimes God’s Word is misunderstood. Let us take a look at God’s word as told to us about the challenge that God placed in the hands of Noah. And, there is nothing wrong about having a little fun with our understanding of God’s WORD. Many of the things that I learned about life, I learned from studying Noah and the Ark.* First of all… it is important not…

Great Marketing Seminar for Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Pratt City, Birmingham

Exchanging Tips and Advice, Seminars and Lectures
If a room full of enthusiastic church-going folks and a pastor who sat through the entire seminar and asked questions about how to “get the word out” is any indication that the seminar was a success . . . then we had a great seminar recently at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Pratt City, Birmingham, AL. The Reverend Dr. Matthew V. Johnson, Jr., senior pastor at Mt. Moriah in Pratt City, was introduced to me by our mutual preacher/friend, Reverend Anthony A. W. Motley, pastor of Lindsay Street Baptist Church in Atlanta. Pastor Johnson and I met at Starbucks for coffee several months ago and talked for a couple of hours about the challenges in his church. His challenges are no different from the average church today – mostly generational…

Seminars and Lectures
On Saturday, March 18th, I expect to speak to the good people at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Pratt City, Birmingham, AL., where the Reverend Dr. Matthew V. Johnson, Jr. is the senior pastor. I was in  Birmingham about three years ago, and I am excited to be coming once again. Recommended by a dear preacher friend of mine, Reverend Anthony A. W. Motley, pastor of Lindsay Street Baptist Church in Atlanta, I met Reverend Johnson about six months ago. We had coffee and talked about his challenges and how I might be able to help him "get the word out" about his ministry and the many great programs going on at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in the Pratt City Community. Like many churches these days, his challenges are universal…

Getting the Word Out – What, When, Where?

Marketing Musts
[caption id="attachment_809" align="alignright" width="300"] Bunnie on the phone, smart phone and computer Getting The Word Out[/caption] Often we talk of “getting the word out.”  The bigger question for you to answer is WHY? WHY am I trying to reach people?  To get them to see my point of view.  To sell something. To get folks to participate/come to a special event.   To stop doing certain things. To persuade and convince.   And the list of reasons get more personal. WHAT was the last thing for which you tried to get the word out?  Maybe it was to convince a group of individuals to vote; or maybe it was to get certain folks to come out and hear a special presentation.   And maybe you are just trying to get the word out…

Getting Started with a New Project – What You Must Know

Getting Started with a New Project – What You Must Know

Marketing Musts
Whenever I am called on to “get the word out” on a specific project, I use every skill that I have ever learned to get my job done to the best of my abilities. I understand that marketing – and the practice of this misunderstood discipline, is ever changing. The 21st century has brought the most changes, back-to-back, in to our field of work. The objectives of most marketing projects are the same today as yesterday.  It is the tools and techniques in marketing that have most certainly changed and continue to change as technology makes us all quiver to think what is next.  What bothers me, however, is the tendency to put more stock in social media and ditch traditional media.  It’s like, “out with the old and in…

How I Created “Getting the Word Out: How to Market Your Ministry”

How I Created “Getting the Word Out: How to Market Your Ministry”

About the Book
I often get asked where I got the idea to write the book “Getting the Word Out:  How to Market Your Ministry.” So, let me tell you my story – how I came to this understanding.  When I wrote this book, I was really thinking about marketing for churches.  The notion kept resonating in my mind “if people don’t know who you are, and where you are, and what you do, they won’t come out to see you” – these are the same issues that drive many marketing campaigns. Fortunately, I worked with a church under the direction of a pastor, Dr. Walter Kimbrough, who “got it” and he allowed me try as much of my 21st century marketing techniques as possible.   And it worked.  I was amazed at how much I…

During the coming weeks, Rainbow PUSH will be holding its “Creating Opportunity Conference” in Atlanta on October 20 through 22.  Some of the speakers and panelist for this event include Roger Bobb, the Honorable Alexis Herman, Mrs. Juanita Abernathy, and Dr. David Satcher. This will be an opportunity for those of us…
