How in the world did I ever get to this point in my life. God only knows . . . and that’s the point. God knew! Even though it took me 60 years to get to my purpose, discovering one’s purpose is truly a blessing.
I have a marketing brain. For about 40 years, I have awakened each morning thinking about how I can “fix” something that has happened (or is about to happen) to my family, my friends and/or MY CLIENTS. I believe I am very good at what I do; and this has been reinforced by many clients whom I have represented over the years. I never give up until I find a solution – this comes from my marketing brain – enhancing and protecting the brand.
About ten years ago, while attending a bible study class and discussing evangelism, I had an eye opener. I realized that the work I had been doing for my church was also needed for most – if not all – churches and nonprofit organizations. I started to write about marketing, applied these professional techniques, coupled with research, talks with pastors and ministers, nonprofit and church leaders, and I had a manuscript.
I have been in the business of public relations since 1974 — before computers were a fixture in offices and homes — before cell phones. I am blessed to have chosen an occupation that I truly enjoy; and, I am told, one that I do very well. Currently, I serve as the president and CEO of firstClass, inc., an Atlanta-based public relations and marketing firm that provides marketing and public relations services to the Atlanta market and throughout the region. The key to our success and survival has been our reputation for superior service, good results, and meeting or exceeding our clients needs.
In 2009, after handling the marketing and communications for a large Atlanta church for several years, I recognized that public relations for God’s ministries and the church was truly my personal ministry. In John 15:16, Jesus said “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go out and bear fruit — fruit that will last.” And in Ephesians 4:1, Paul said . . . “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” It might have taken me more than 60 years to discover what my calling is; but, with the help of God, I think I finally got it right.
I wrote a book entitled “Getting the Word Out: How to Market Your Ministry” which is a hand-on guide for churches, ministers and ministries. This publication if filled with communication tools and tactics needed for evangalism. And, what works for God’s ministries, also works for the many volunteer and nonprofit groups that serve our people.
The blog, www.howtomarketyourministryblog.com, that you are reviewing now, is another source to receive the materials from the book. I hope to improve on the tactics that I have written about in the book and incorporate this information in to this blog. I pray that you will visit this blog often and use the information for the benefit of your church.
There is no doubt in my mind that this project, Getting The Word Out: How To Market Your Ministry, has been blessed. I pray that you will let me bless you with its contents.
After you have read it, call me up and talk to me – I want to hear from you.
